History and Importance of Zaheerabad, Medak District

Zaheerabad Town in the Medak District of Telangana state is known as the commercial centre of the area. Originally known as Badi Ekkhelli or Akkampalli, it changed its name in memory of Mohammad Zaheeruddin who was the eldest son of an Aristocratic Sufi Islamic family. However, even today locals refer to the place as Badi Ekkhelli or Akkampalli as it was also called.

Primarily an agricultural area, Zaheerabad treats tourists to a healthy diet of legends and myths regarding the places in and around its periphery. The Kethaki Sangameshwara Swamy temple, located in a quaint village called Jharasangam near the Zaheerabad town is one such locale. The temple also known as Astha Theertha Amrutha Gundam or Dakshina Kasi was believed to have been created by Lord Brahma, who meditated at this place after having created the whole world.
