Hyderabad History – Dated back to 1000AD

Hyderabad has always been the historic city of India. During the period of 1000-1200 AD Chalukyas Dynasty ruled a part of South India which is now known as Hyderabad. However, it was next to impossible to imagine during that period that this place will turn out to be one of the most beautiful cities of County.
After the Chalukyas dynasty Kakatiya dynasty took over. Kakatiya Ruler ruled the Deccan Area of Hyderabad with Orugallu (Warangal) as their capital. One major fort started by Kakatiyas is the famous Golconda  fort which has become one the favourite tourist spots of Hyderabad.
Later the Kakatiya Kingdom went into Delhi Sultanate hands. Delhi Sultanate conquered Kakatiya kingdon defeating Prataparudra (the last King of Kakatiyas rule).
Bahamani Sultanate revolted against Delhi Sultanate and established the first Muslim kingdon in South India. Once the Bahamani Sultanate was successful in establishing their rule in the area of Hyderabad, Quli Qutb-ul-Malik was made the head of this area.
Quli Qutb-ul-Malik later became the founder of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in 1518 AD and declared freedom from Bahamani Sultanate. Qutb Shahi dynasty laid foundation to build the city of Hyderabad and the Hyderabad History started from here. This dynasty became the creator or builder of Hyderabad city. Golconda fort built by Kakatiyas was later developed and expanded by Qutb Shahi rulers.  The planning of Hyderabad city is done by Qutb Shahi dynasty. The world famous ‘Charminar’ is built by Qutb Shahi rulers. Also the Mecca Masjid of Hyderabad is built by Qutb Shahi rulers.
Seven generations of Qutb Shahi dynasty ruled Hyderabad and thereafter Aurangzeb took over in 1687. After the death of Aurangzeb in the year 1707, Asaf Jah the Nizam-ul-Mulk (Governor) declared independence of the kingdom in the year 1724 from the rule of Mughal dynasty. His generation was known as the Nizams who ruled till 1948.
In the year 1798, an association for military and political cooperation was signed among the Nizam and the British East India Company. Then the northern area was recognised as the cantonment. This area is today known as Secunderabad. The period of Nizams was the golden era in the history of Hyderabad because the major social, economic and political development took place during this era. The Hyderabad city became more and wealthier during this scenario. The last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan of Hyderabad City became the richest man of the world in the year 1937.
After the Nizam’s in 1948 the Indian army officially took over the charge of the city and it amalgamated with the Union of India. Till 1893 the official language was Persian and later, Urdu took over up to 1948 slowly Telugu and Marathi also became popular in the city.
Railways (1879) and Railway stations, Begumpet Airport (1937), schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, Givernment offices, Assembly, Roads, drainage system, canals, dams, lakes, etc came to existence in Hyderabad before 1948.
