Nizam Asaf Jah VI in the year 1868 at Moula-Ali initiated horse racing in Hyderabad. During that scenario these races were popular as Deccan races. Later, Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, Nizam(VI) desired to have the race course near his palace so then it was relocated to Malakpet in the year 1886.Rather it was constructed in the premise of the place itself. According to the reports, the race conducted here was rated on par with any other centre in the country. The whole event was conducted systematically by resident Englishmen and neck to neck competition existed. After Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, Nizam(VI) the racing was conducted under the patronage of the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. Monsoon was the season when the racing was conducted here. After sometime the land which belonged to the cantonment at Secunderabad was turned into a regular racecourse. The Nizam was though highly inspired by the strong state of affairs of the sport in the city, and the construction of the South India Turf Club in the year 1956, Nizam, as a gesticulation sold to the present land of Hyderabad Race Club of 126 acres, at a very nominal rate. The current Hyderabad Race Course flourished in the year 1968. In the year 1976, another winter track was added on which the Hyderabad Winter Races are conducted. Hyderabad Race Course is the only Turf Authority in the whole county to own the entire racecourse property those houses within the race course complex, the tracks, professional quarters, stables, parking lot etc. Yeomen service has been offered by the Hyderabad Racing club to its members and is leaving no space for failure in the mission of promoting this royal sport throughout the country. Hyderabad Race club was turned into an independent Turf Authority body in the year 1977. At present the racing event in this club takes place from July to March. During 1978 the first Invitational race was conducted as per their rules and under their supervision. Hyderabad Race Club is highly active in assisting in the process of molding the Invitation Cup into the premier Classic of Indian Racing. Sponsorship was bought in picture to Indian Racing by the Hyderabad Race Club, which put the Invitation Cup on a different footing and makes it one of the most prominent races in the country. The Application submitted for the membership of this race club should be addressed to the secretary of the club and shall contain the particulars as may be prescribed by the Board for the purpose. For Joining the family of this historical Race Club either as a member or stand member you must submit an application for that point in the form prescribed and it should be supported or sanction by two club members who possess voting right in the club. Hyderabad Race Course is among the top racecourses of India. Racing has been the most royal sport since ages and Hyderabad Race Club is taking the initiative to keep the culture and ancient sport alive in the heart of Telangana.
