About Sarala Sagar Dam Project: 
Sarala Sagar Dam Project is located in Mahabubnagar District of Telangana State. This project is located exactly about 6 Kms away from Kothakota Mandal Head quarters on National Highway No. 7 on the pathway from Hyderabad to Bangalore. Main water source of this irrigation project is from River Krishna.

Founder of Sarala Sagar Project: 
This Project was found by Wanaparthy Ruler Raja Rameshwara Rao. He built this project on the name of his mother Sarala. The Technology for this project was brought from California in USA.

This project was inaugurated by the military Governor of Hyderabad General Sri J.N Chowdary. Foundation of the project was laid on 15th September, 1949. And later, this project was again started in the year 1959.Fortunately an approximate of 4000 Acres of Agricultural land has been brought under irrigation through Sarala Sagar project.

Speciality of Sarala Sagar Project:
This project is incorporated with an new outstanding technology which is one of its kind and very unique in Asia continent.
Main new technique implemented in Sarala Sagar project is the automatic Siphons system.This automatic siphon system is very rare and unique system which is second in the world. (Click here to read about Siphon Technology) To be in detail, this project has 17 hood siphons, 4 priming siphons were used. Once when water level of the tank exceeds its capacity the siphon system automatically opens.This is the very special implementation in siphons done in the project.

– Visitors can reach the destination from Hyderabad to Erravalli X Road on NH-7, which has 120′ BT Road with good condition. The destination is about 13 km from Erravalli X Roads, 43 Km from Mahabubnagar.
– Many Buses Ply from Mahabubnagar to Sarala Sagar daily. One can also use private transport to reach Sarala Sagar Dam.

By Train:
– Trains running between Hyderabad to Tirupathi, Hyderabad to Bangalore, Egmore of Chennai to Kachiguda in Hyderabad and New Delhi to Tirupathi pass through Mahabubnagar Railway station.
– Nearest Railway Station is Mahabubnagar. One has to get down at Mahabubnagar if travelling by train. From Mahabubnagar, once can utilize public transport.

By Air:
– Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at shamshabad is the nearest airport for Mahabubnagar district and also from this place. Shamshabad is located 30 kms from shadnagar and 80 kms from Mahabubnagar town.
