Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary – National Park of Telangana

Located at a distance of 10 km from Manthani, the Shivaram wildlife Sanctuary is another interesting destination for adventure tourism in Telangana. Straddled across both the Adilabad and Karimnagar districts, the sanctuary was established in 1987 and is sprawled over an area of 37 square kilometers.

The Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary is known primarily for its rich population of Marsh Crocodiles. A perennial basin of the River Godavari, the Sanctuary has created a comfort zone for these fresh water reptiles who find it extremely convenient to live and breed in its fertile topography. Also known as the mugger, the marsh crocodiles are the most viewed animals in the Sanctuary.

In addition to the mugger, the Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary is also famous for other varieties of herbivore and carnivores which includes Tiger, Langur, Rhesus Monkey, Sloth Bear, Cheetal, and Sambar.  Pythons are also the other member of the reptile family which thrives in the grasslands of the Sanctuary.

The lush, green undulating terrain of the Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary is a refreshing change from the smoke and dust of urban existence. The surrounding greenery is largely attributed to the area being a riverine forest. Some of the other floras that can be found in the area include Teak, Terminalia, Bamboo, Anogeissus, and Cassia.

The best time to visit the Sanctuary is between the months November- April. Cooler temperatures during that time help to keep the beasts in a good mood and therefore promise better sightings. Tourists can hire cars (only petrol as diesel vehicles are not allowed inside the Jungle) for the jungle safari.

A visit to the Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary adds just the right amount of excitement in your travel itinerary. Viewing animals in their natural habitat and breathing in the fresh air are the essential ingredients for a thrilling holiday.
